Corona and COVID#

Corona started 2020 in China, and spread all over the world. For a long time Corona was dealt with massive isolation/ shutdowns in China, but steadily growing sentiments against this by the population eventually lead to stop this "Zero-Covid philosophy", resulting in a huge wave of infections end of 2022 and beginning 2023.

Most other countries imposed very much weaker restrictions. The later Covid variants (mutations) of Corona were quite contagious, but the severity was seen in most cases similar to flue. Hence, especially in Europe, few restrictions remain.

For a while Austria-Forum reported in detail of the development of COVID infections but this has been stopped January 2023.

Here a few facts:

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.

Here a few points:

  • COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
  • Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
  • COVID-19 spreads mainly through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
  • The best way to prevent COVID-19 is to practice good hygiene, such as frequently washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Wearing a mask can help prevent the spread of COVID-19, particularly in areas where social distancing is difficult to maintain.
  • Vaccines have been developed and authorized for emergency use to protect against COVID-19.
  • COVID-19 has affected people of all ages, but older adults and people with underlying health conditions are at higher risk of severe illness.
  • COVID-19 has caused widespread illness and death worldwide, with over 150 million confirmed cases and 3.2 million deaths as of January 2021.
  • COVID-19 has also had significant economic and social impacts, leading to job losses and disruptions to daily life.
  • Scientists continue to study the virus and learn more about its transmission and severity, and there is ongoing research for treatments and vaccines.
