Akupunktur#
Acupuncture: Chinese medical treatment method which involves the use of metal needles. In 1954 the "Oesterreichische Gesellschaft fuer Akupunktur ("Austrian Acupuncture Society") was founded by J. Bischko. In 1958 Bischko set up an acupuncture clinic in the ENT department of the Vienna Poliklinik hospital. In 1972 the L. Boltzmann Institute for Acupuncture was founded; since 1992, the Kaiserin-Elisabeth hospital has been the seat of both the Society and Institute for Acupuncture. In 1986 acupuncture was partially acknowledged as a cure for illnesses by the Oberster Sanitaetsrat (Austrian High Medical Council).
